I have been looking around and there are some very nice battery operated lanterns made by differant company's. I was thinking about solar but if sun doesn't shine you are out. What is your thought on a battery operated lighting system. I will not be there all the time and many last up to 56 hours of run time on 4 D battery's. They put out great light.

Just my 2 cents, but I went with one 12 volt LED bulb down stairs wired to switch and battery. Solar charger to keep the battery up. We tried the remote controlled lantern from Cabela, didn't like batteries hanging over our heads, so to speak, now we just need a little sun and we're good to go. The LED bulbs are pricey but last for like 3200 hours and draw almost nothing. Hope this helps and I really enjoy looking at your cabin, you need to take more pictures.

Really!? I would love to know the names of them!
I have been searching for decent off grid lighting since I bought the property, and have been underwhelmed with the quality. The closest to decent is a Coleman, in a style they don't seem to make anymore. The other surprising success has been using multiple tiki torches like the ones at the Big Box Stores, but those are strictly for outdoors.

Very nice and looks like good light. I did go buy a Coleman lantern with removable hand held lights that you can take from the main battery operated light. The 4 D battery's charge the hand helds and can use the lantern as one unit also. You can use light up to 56 hours on 4 D battery's. I got this unit for 34.00 bucks and will give it a try. The full cost of light was 64.00. The LED lights in it are very bright and I can sit in a chair across the room and still see to read. For a niight or 2 in the woods I thinks this may do for me. I will let you know how this works out. I will use AKL batter's and recharge when I go to cabin.

It is a Coleman 6.0V XPS. You should check it out they seem well built and I have had the hand held away from docking station for over an hour and still lighting fine. The reviews are good on this product and I think the trick is to remove hand held and use one at a time and recaharge placing it back in to the docking station. Then take the other one out and use it. They claim that it will last for 56 hours using the unit just on the 4 D battery's as one unit. I talked to a guy in the store that has sold them and people are very pleased with this unit. For the money I paid I would not be out much if it doesn't work but I don't see that happening. Check it out.

i have a coleman camping lantern. the battery is internal, but it comes with chargers for 110 at home, at 12v for charging in the car. I use it alot, has three brightness settings, doesnt get hot, and lasts for a full night with no problem. this beats the hell out of any gas or LP lantern ive used.

Exactly. I have run mine to check the run time and it does what they say. 50 plus hours and the hand helds are more them they say. They run 3 hours plus. I'm very pleased with this product. The light is very good and can read with no problem.

I have used the same lantern elk hunting for many years and they work fine. I really thought hard on getting one like that but I didn't want to deal with the fuel and wick thing but they are a great light also. I have been very pleased with the battery operated lantern and lasts and lasts. Rookie's can have a hard time to light them and it always seemed like a wick burned out but again they do serve the purpose.
