Small Cabin Forum / Off-Grid Living / It seems too simple, what am I missing with this concept?

The biggest thing we plugged into the 12 volt cig.liter was a 10"fan.mostly cell phone,tablet charging.I used 14 Guage mc cable for all the 12 volt wireing.Most importantly was the 12 volt auto fusing to protect all the circuits.

Ive not seen a cig-lighter socket that has looked heavy duty enough for serious 12vdc loads and the wires off them have been pretty puny; that is, they dont inspire confidence in me.
Ive overheated, slightly melted, turned the internal fuse pressure spring into a wire on 2 or 3 cig-lighter plugs too. One was with what was called a 'travel coffee pot set'..... There is good reason the fuses are low amps on those in typical cars/trucks, the wires are mighty thin! (and the fuses protect the wiring, not the device) I dont know, maybe semi's have more hd sockets?
