I'd like to use this old ng wall heater in my shop, on propane. I know it needs a smaller orifice, somewhere. And maybe a new valve?
Worth it?

Most NG appliances can be converted to propane, but not all. NG runs at a lower pressure than propane. Some appliances have a small "last stage" pressure regulator built in that has an adjustment for NG/propane. Then as you stated you need a smaller orifice.
Check the model number out for a user manual and read it. Good place to start.

Thanks ICC. Found a user manual online, it shows a different valve for LP. This is an old unit but it looks like universal type replacement valves are available for $50-$100. Then the orifices..
Not sure it's worth it.

Unless you have some real knowledge of gas fueled appliances and their safety devices it can get iffy quick. Just think about the 'reduced to toothpicks' news reports of homes that blow up every year.
