Hi guys,
I need some help after you look at the pic I attached. Those logs protruding from the cabin are the joists that run under the entire cabin loft. I need to build a porch and support those logs underneath, and build a deck on top of the logs.
I need to find a way to make a permanent water barrier on top of the logs before any decking goes on there. I simply cannot ever let those logs get rotten from water and snow melt that falls down between the cracks. Is there a solution? Or maybe build a solid type deck that has water channels? Thanks for any ideas!

Flashing tape ontop of the logs is my first thought.

Thanks. As long as I can find some that will never come off that is a good idea.

EPDM is what I'd likely use.

How about Grace water and ice shield. They also make the narrower strips for sealing windows.

I wouldnt use EPDM as your screw holes wont seal and may actualy be worse than not useing anything. Flashing tape is pretty common to use ontop of deck ledgers, carry beams, stair stringers and some people even use it over every floor joist.

That's a good point! I've seen EPDM used for things like sill seal, and I've seen it used under freestanding decks to catch water to drain....But hadn't thought about that! I guess a decent flashing tape makes more sense.
