Hello,

I'm looking for insight into what flooring material would last in the change room of my sauna. It's a raised wood floor that is insulated. The floor deck is ¾ T&G plywood. I'm in northern Canada so it will see -40°C (-40°F) and very wet conditions while in use.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Blair

I would go onto Owen's website and ask. He builds saunas. He's just posted a "hello" thread.

I put a waterproof membrane on my plywood and removable "duckboards"... I too have the -40 problem where I am at. Neighbor did a concrete over hardiboard but it's heavy and cracked. A drain is necessary for the wet conditions, others the water has nowhere to go.

I debated several things - cork, waterproofing for shower, hardiboard with the skim coating of concrete, tile, cork. The temperature changes are what isn't good for the tile. I had a neighbor do vinyl floor tiles and they peel up with the -40 to 140+ temperature variation.

Not a real perfect answer, but I struggled with the same issue. I'm happy with the waterproof membrane.
