I'm looking to strip my deck and stain it. It is painted gray with at least a few coats. I'm looking to strip it and stain it a more natural color. Any suggestions on the best method or product to strip it? I'm also considering flipping the boards over.

Pressure wash it first then let dry and take a belt sander to the rest. Painting a deck is a bad idea unless you like constant maintenance.

You can rent drum sanders but have to make sure that all the screws are deep enough to not catch the drum.

Research your stains before you go down the path of choosing something that you’ll have to strip off again.
For a few years I repeatedly put a Behr premium deck stain on my cedar deck and it was repeatedly a disaster.
Looked great when coated but crappy and peeling and flaking by the next year. It behaved far more like a paint rather than a stain - and it wasn’t even a solid colour stain.
The same stain worked great on the PT framing and only now, over 10 years later does the framing need to be revisited.
So I’ve let it continue to flake off for the past 6 or 7 years and 90% of it is now gone so I’ll soon me looking for an oil based stain that will soak into the cedar

A novice and a drum sander are a good way to really screw up a deck or hardwood floor.
