I am of the thought that if one is going to build then stick built is the most simple. I mean once one has a foundation to build on.

Am I forgetting something? is there anything easier or that takes less energy. It is a system, and all systems have pros and cons.

All the parts are relatively light weight so that helps. It is pretty standard and a lot of people understand it.

Is there anything easier?

Easy is relative. What do you like? How big? How small? Ease of accessibility?
Sometimes easy is not one is looking for.
Have fun!

You're gonna build it for a year or two.

You are gonna enjoy it for the rest of your life.

Make sure to factor that into the equation.

I went the "cheap and simple" route for a lot of things in my cabin, and there are a couple things I now wish I hadn't

Tim, good thing to keep in mind that the build time vs enjoyment time are not the same!

Any feedback on what you'd do differently specifically?

My foundation. I put it on piers, and not very well. I should have spent the $200-$300 to have someone come in and level it for me, and put down rock. That way I could have skidded it on some big timber rails and not worry about it.

Also, I GREATLY underestimated the amount of outlets I out in. And the damn thing is, every outlet is a dual-duplex, giving me 4 plug ins, but I should have put outlets on other walls. I figured I would only need outlets by the headboard in the bedroom. WRONG!

And I should have done the stairs a bit different to not take up so much floorspace on the bottom.
Mostly stuff like that.

You can see everything I did and every mistake I made on my blog. http://cowracer.blogspot.com/p/cabin_3.html

I never mentioned the wood cheap, I most likely will be working mostly alone most of the time. Also, I am getting older and not the bull I used to be. Discussion is always good. I avoided the whole foundation issue because I have a hard time sorting it out in my mind. The discussion above has led me back to skids. Which leads me back to best way to insulate the floor.

So it is getting to be stick built on skids with a mono plane roof, a shed roof, at least a 3/12 pitch. Every one is concerned about costs, but value plays a part. Any out side the box or ideas on floor insulation.?thanks to all.

Paul, can a cement truck get into it? I just had mine done in full footing/stemwall, just a dig out with a small dozer. It was way easier than digging a bunch of holes.

Also, single story is simple, 4/12 roof pitch, simple gable roof. All good stuff if you are doing it yourself. I nibbled on mine on long weekends, maybe 3 or 4 a year, so I have a small team of buddies that helped, but if I had to do it all alone, the above mentioned would be factors to consider.

i have researched these sheds/cabins up to 16' wide and 48' long and how they move them. I got really lucky one day and a guy who moves them had his truck parked in front of a Lowes building supply store. he gave me a tour of the truck and equipment and explained what makes it possible to move them. He told me what to pay attention to if I built my own and wanted to ever move it. he had just picked up a 12 x 28 and moved it 33 miles for 500 dollars.
