For a flat roof what do you think would be a sensible cantilever?

9x12 in total building footprint
6 - 6x6 posts 3 & 3 timber frame structure with braces.

The roof would be supported by three laminated beams sitting on the 6x6 posts. 9 2x12's. Lifting a 6x12 up there isn't going to happen....

I can put braces under the cantilever onto the posts if that will allow me to extend it a bit. I was hoping to get something to sit under in the rain.

Not sure about sensible, etc. But I was told for TRUSSES on a sloped roof I was looking at, that 25% of total span was doable, as a general rule of thumb.

Thanks Nate.

I was thinking it might be more sensible to just do a small overhang and get an awning.

I have three 6x6s to attach it to, so... it might make more sense than playing arm chair engineer.

Or put some support brackets on a 45 from the roof to the posts.......

That was always the plan. I would put supports under the cantilever for sure.
