How much of a problem is frost heave when building on skids?
In West Virginia, my county requires 30" footer depth.
I think someone posted a picture of a cabin on skids on gravel about a year ago, maybe in NY.

I have a few buildings from 10x10 feet up to 12 x 20 on 8x8 timber skids. They both have slight problems with doors binding. We get snow and frequently temperatures for several hours during the day when it melts, then refreezes overnight. The doors never jam hard enough to prevent opening, mostly is just an occasional pita. But I would be more upset if it was something like a cabin or home. I sort of solved the problem with the smaller shed which gets daily use most of the year. I planed the door to have more clearance at sides, bottom & top. Not something I would want to do on a heated inhabited building. So, how much of a problem? Depends.

I have a 14 X 24 cabin on 6 X 6 skids in NY. Its been in for 10 years and minor frost heave in the dead of winter causes door to stick but not bad and after spring warms up, it always(so far) has settled back to normal.

In a 9x12 bunkie on skids, would a sliding glass door be a bad idea?

It depends on the soil your dealing with. Thankfully where ever I dig on my property in NW U.P. of Michigan its 2" of top soil and then sand. I built on skids last year. It doesn't seem that my 12x16 camp has moved at all. The windows and doors all worked like normal during the winter/spring and summer.
