I came across this

What are your guys thoughts about turning it into an outhouse? It's plastic and easy to clean, Will never rot. My only concern is bolting is down so it doesn't blow away in the wind.

Looks like a reasonable idea to me if you like the style for your outhouse. If it has a floor, that would easily be modified to suit. And should be fairly simple to bolt down or use tiedowns on the sides.

I was pricing the lumber, paint, metal roof, etc. And it's going to be like 500 to build a decent outhouse. And come time to move holes it'll be light and I feel it would be more sanitary cause you can wipe it down. My only concern is properly anchoring it down from wind and holding up to snow loads.

I built my rough cut lumber 4x4 outhouse for a $150. Not including the seat! A friend gave me a piece of scrap metal roofing.

Outhouses can be cheap to build, and I like the uniqueness of the ones seen on the outhouse thread here

but

I can't argue with that Menards one, nosir

great find, IMO

If you want to protect against wind. Would it help to dig in PT 4x4 's at each corner. You can pretty them up with lattice. Just a thought. Should make a really good $hitter and the price is right. old243

In my area, a privy actually required a permit and had all kinds of restrictions. It was easier for me to just cheat and buy a Satellite Industries Tufway 150 in forest green.

Here is an idea we did when we had vacant property that we would camp on throughout the Spring - Fall, we put in a floor pallet and plywood, mounted a flush toilet, mounted a 55 gallon barrel just under the roof line and funneled rain water from the roof into the barrel and from barrel to toilet to use for flushing. No flies, no stink (almost none) and just cleaner than an exposed pit.

I just built a sawdust toilet and it was pretty easy.

I'm just getting started on my new camp. Will have power but not an indoor toilet. In the area of my camp I had to use a concrete tank and pour a riser then build on top of it. I spent the money and did a 4'x5' outhouse that is insulated and heated. Also has a 4" vent pipe with an online fan drawing air directly out of the tank. Literally no smell inside the outhouse. After 33 years of cold toilet seats I decided to upgrade! Only issue is condensation forming on the seat when it's closed.
