Hello all,
I have recently went ahead and purchased a small lot to enjoy as a recreational destination. Here is a short video of the view from the top.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd-LLgXXx2I

The land has several nice flat locations but there is a good amount of elevation between them. I am looking at getting some supplies up a 100ft or so hill without having to carry everything by hand. I have been looking into some hoists and winches and the winch speed appears to be very slow. I will not be pulling any significant weight per load and am wondering if something along the lines of a harbor freight A/C hoist would be usable to pull stuff up? Hoping someone has some experience with something similar. Worst case I can haul by hand. I do have a generator i can run A/C off of.

Just wondering if you could set up a simple system with a cable and pulley? In the early days of our cabin, we had to bring water up a ravine in 5 gallon buckets. We had a cable strung across the ravine with a pulley tied to a rope. We would fill the bucket and then hang it off the pulley. There was another pulley at the top the rope was fed through. From the top of the ravine we pulled the rope and brought the bucket up. Worked great. For heavier loads a block and tackle system may make work easier. It won't require electricity and may be cheaper than a hoist.

Yeah manual might be a possibility but would prefer a electric option as there will be some sheets of 3/4 ply etc that will need to be moved. Wondering if you can run one of these style hoists on it side or a different configuration than pulling straight up.

winches/hoists like that aren't meant for long run times. They overheat and shutdown pretty quickly, and most are power hogs. How do you plan to power it? Generator would be the only viable option as you will drain a battery in no time.

Have a generator. Good info on the long runs tho. Im guessing it would have to pull 100-200LB or so 100ft.

Small winches have a short duty cycle that only last for maybe a minute. It will pull hard for a minute, then it has to cool down before doing it again.

I would just take the time to make a trail and get an ATV with a trailer to move things around. A better long term approach and you get some nice trails. I have a very steep drop off from the road to the back of my property that had some off camber side slope. I needed to get my tow behind chipper down into the little valley. The only option was to hire a guy and his small dozer to come and cut a road. It was the best money I spent up there as now I have two entrances in and out of the valley. Not saying you need to rent a dozer, but cutting a road of sorts is very beneficial to make life easier.

Ontario lakeside has a great set up. Watch some of his videos. He uses an electric hoist to move lots of material

Yeah I am checking that out. I am looking to do something very similiar but it looks like a pretty customized pulley.
Actually after looking a little further into that is probably a hoist he is using in that setup.

Go to the local breakfast place and buy breakfast for a few local farmers, they have all kinds of tractors, ATVs, trailers and farmer know-how. I am sure they can help you out.

WanglerStar has a Youtube vid, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B10Io7MLp1Y, where he built a portable winch using a chainsaw.

Our winch was bought used and may be difficult to find. Before we had it we used manpower. never underestimate the power of compound pulleys!

I saw that Wranglerstar video. That is way beyond my personal skill level. I will see what I can do with the worm gear winch I posted earlier. Otherwise it might be looking like Ontario mentioned "Manpower".
