We are on a year round road , just got an email of confirmation from North Bay mattawa conservation authority approving our existing outhouse , waiting to hear form clerk in Mcdougall. We have hydro at the road but have no interest in hook up. Hope we find out soon.

Even if the power lines were closer we have no desire to be on grid. This would create a expensive monthly Hydro bill for us.
When our nephew passed away his out building electric was disconnected saving his widow $45 per month.
This was the monthly fee just to have hookup.
Also even though everyone in town has baseboard heat to meet insurance requirements they use wood burning stoves.
Before my SIL moved to her senior retirement home she used baseboard heat because she couldn't use a wood burning stove due to health problems.
Her hydro bill was $500-800 per month in the winter!
The rent with heat included at the retirement home was less than her winter heat bills!

Agreed! Crazy how expensive it can be.

So as it turns out the Municipality won't give us our options until we give them our address, they seemed more willing when I asked about a sleeping cabin whereas in the past it was a flat out no about camping or a bunkie but they still want our address. Guess we'll try to fly under the radar.

Silverlady -" Even if the power lines were closer we have no desire to be on grid. This would create a expensive monthly Hydro bill for us." Totally agree...I'm doing the required code electrical "rough in" but will never hook up to hydro. Once I get it inspected, I can do my insulation and plumbing. I"ll wait to see what the future holds...re. the advances in solar power or stick with hooking up to my 3000 Yamaha generator when I need power.
