Has anyone had any success on making your own Wooden Dowells
what size in diameter did you use??
how much longer into the 2nd log did you go?
how did make the taper ??

Nope, bought 1" hickory ones by the case. You can split and drawknife pegs. I've seen one fellow who, once they were close, would then drive them through a steel plate with a hole of the desired size drilled through it. You can turn them on a lathe, or rip sticks and route with the appropriate roundover bit.

I haven't, but I agree with what was said above, check out the latest John Neeman video - they show who they make them and drive them in place, make sure to countersink, so they don't pop out during settling of the logs
