I'd like my build to be a simple 20 deep by 24 wide but I'd like to have a single slope shed roof with the high end facing out to the lake. I've built a few cabins with others, but roofing and what can and can't be done always puzzled me. I live in northern Ontario, so we have high snow load in the winter. How do you go about construction of a roof like this with 16' lumber? Also, is there free or cheap software where I can lay out my plan and get a materials list etc? Thanks fort the help gang!

If you try this it may be able to help you.

This is a trial version so you can't copy and save any of the drawings but you can take screen shots of your work. Once you exit the program you lose everything though. There are online video tutorials and a feature to generate cut lists, materials lists, etc. Takes a bit of practice but a good program.
