I'm building a 24 x 24 screen porch and intend to have an observation deck on top. So my general contractor head is telling me to build the roof (ie, run the rafters) with a slight pitch. Not much rain where I am, so a 1/8" drop per foot would be ok, but that's still 3" front to back. I could build a flatter area on top of the roof material, and finish it with ? surface, (Trex doesn't last here.) Trying to avoid walking on comp rolled roofing here.
So a flat roof or pitched? Use the roof as a walking surface? Different material for roof? Build a raised flat area over the pitched roof?
Any out of the box ideas appreciated!

A friend is doing one of this type, aluminum. It is pitched, I'd break it both ways from a high centerline if possible just to cut down on the overall drop and make it symetrical. https://www.nexaninc.com/products/decking/lockdry-waterproof-decking

In the first pic you see my bike shed at our cottage with a deck on top.It has a fall of 2in. in 10 ft.. that dose not seem noticeable to me , seems to run any rain off quickly . The roof has a layer of industrial roof deck as a structural layer then a pt. deck built over it 5\4s x 6 in. In the second pic you can see I used the same roof deck to cover our old trailer we use as a hunt camp . I purchased the metal as scrap so I have no idea of a price . I was told it is used as roofing in flat roof industrial buildings , comes in different gauges and lengths . flat roof deck

the metal roofing I used came 2 ft. wide and 10. ft. long it is very ridged has a top corrugated plate and a bottom flat sheet of steal . The small deck 8x10 has no support under the steel and it is a good solid floor ,no spring . I think it is made in the US around Baltimore the folks I got it from called it roof deck . Sorry all I know. Snapshot_20151001_2..jpg
