Building an 8x12 hunting camp in the backwoods only accessible by atv. Trying to save grunt work digging posts I'm thinking I'll put 4 8x8 posts down in a 6'x8' shape using patio blocks on tamped gravel. 2 8x8x12 girders span the posts 8ft apart, then the 8'x12' floor of 2x6" on the girders. The 8x8 should be plenty for the 8ft span between posts yes? I'm going with 8x8 because I got it free from work. No code to go by for remote cabins here, plan to use for hunting and fishing maybe 1 weekend per month.

Or, stand the posts up at the 4 corners of the building. Run them full height from footing pad to top plate. 8x8'sx ~12' can be mortised in to the posts to carry the floor on each long side. At the top of the posts an 8x8x14' or 2x material can be notched in. Running the posts full height lets the wall brace the posts.
