Anyone have experience with staining oak? I'm trying to keep the raw look (of our cabin interior) without adding color, but I want to bring out the grain and true color of the oak. I have a product that I will be putting on but it's more of a gloss sealant that says it can be put on over a stain.

The guy who sandblasted our cabin logs recommended this:

Also with interior stains, I'd rather use a water based. Any pros/cons about that?

I like waterlox, an oil based wiping varnish. The water based poly's are ok. Another oil based finish that I like is General Finishes Seal a Cell

It can be topped by their Arm r Seal for a tougher higher build;
