I have a nice bus on my property we use as a cabin, it has the standard layout, bathroom Kitchen, living and rear bedroom. It is a 54 GMC 4104. I am thinking instead of starting a cabin right now, I may just add on to the side of the bus. Something 24X24 or even 16X24. A shed roof style building, Built almost as a addition to the bus, anyone have any suggestions or comments? Maybe a larger living room and Kitchen and possible bigger bathroom in the addition. As most, the lower the cost, the better. Thanks in advance. PC154809.JPG

I'm just wondering whether you really would gain that much building a 24 x 24 addition versus building a separate structure. Yes it's nicer to have one large structure but the two could be connected by a portico.
If you cut the bus to open it to the addition, do you think you can easily waterproof and air seal it?
The bus is intact as is, I would tend to want to keep it that way.

No I don't intend to do any modifications to the bus, just build on where I would have a entry by the bus door, just taking the door off and it would be basically a back room once the addition was done. In time move the bus away and the addition would be its own cabin. Just while building it I would be able to use the bus as living area since its got everything in place already

I love that bus, so retro!
We are basically in the same boat as you but are just going to stay in the motorhome when we build our small house on the property next year...

Thanks, the bus is great but with the current price of diesel its going to be off the road for a while.

I like your bus. If you had land in Northern MN I'd build you a cabin on trade. I've traded for campers and a motor home before.

my first cabin was a ole school bus a 1958 FORD...has 5 beds(2 are bunks)....kitchen /fridge/table with 2 bus seats..... that thing has been around..we pulled it by wrecker to several tracts of property we leased for hunting ..no motor or trans..."it was called the "love bus" back in the day...LOL I have owned this bus for OVER 30 years....it is headed to recycle in about a week.....sad...OH the memories...LOL we did build a shed porch on it at one location it sat for 10 years or so.i hope it brings $700 or more due to the high prices of scrap metal these days....I paid $200 for it back in the day..... BTW~~ love your bus...build a cabin around it...leave both ends open...drive the bus out one day ....close up the 2 ends...and build floor section where the bus was parked...I saw this at a hunting camp..years ago...

Sounds like quite a life of the School Bus. Almost like losing a member of the family it sounds like.
