My wife and I are looking at building a small cabin in the 180 sq ft range this summer as a family getaway. In pricing materials I found that 3/4" PT floor sheeting is about $40 a sheet, Is there an alternative ? Not only would I like to use as little PT as possible for health and environmental issues, that seems really expensive to me. Could I use PT floor joists, cover with tar paper on the interior side and then use normal 3/4 (OSB $10 - $20 a sheet) over that ?

Any wood that is close to the ground should be PT. How close is close? Floor joists should be PT if the lower face/edge of the joist is less than 18 inches from the ground. You can use OSB on top of that but exterior grade non-PT plywood would be better. An excellent sheet material to use is Advantech. Lowe's carries it in many places. Looks like OSB but has a higher resin content.
