Getting ready to install my wood stove and I have a question? When I cut a hole in my new roof to run my stove pipe out of can I just use one of those high temp orange boots or do I have to buy a kit?
Im not really sure. I have read about just using the high temp boot and then brace any pipe over 4' high?
Any help or pictures would be great. I have a 12/12 pitch metal roof.

you will want to install a chimney support box in the roof, and then put a chimney flashing, weather ring, and then the class A and cap after that.

If you don't like the box they do make other styles:

You just need to maintain 2 inches of clearance around the pipe. That means no insulation, wood, nothing comes closer than 2 inches from the pipe. If your pipe goes thru an attic they make metal attic shields to maintain the spacing.
In place of the box they make adjustable trim plates to cover the oval shaped hole around the pipe.

Brokeneck, while looking at your pic labeled "rock", I got the impression your flashing is over the top of the shingles. Please tell me this is an illusion.

Illusion -- I was installing cultured stone on the chase -- this was just temporary 2x4s to keep the mortar off the roof -- and as you can see by the pictures I'm an amatuer at best and by no means do I usually know what I'm doing .. that's why i suggested the folks at ventingpipe.com : )

I installed mine a couple weekends ago. The piece of stove pipe right before the box looks weird because it is an adjustable double-wall piece. Obviously it's not fully hooked up and secured with set screws in this picture, but you get the idea.
Yes, I did re-use the flashing, it came with the stove and saved me $50 as long as I didn't mind the bits of green shingle on it!
