Arrrg, I'm an idiot! I installed a window today and nailed it on the inside of my cabin to the framing and then I installed tongue and groove board around it on the outside. The problem is that the window is recessed into the cabin. I believe I should have installed the window on the outside of the framing. I can't undo it, but I need a way to make sure that water doesn't sit between the window and the siding. Is there a solution?

I would guess a jam extension to fit will be fine on the sides and top. Maybe a metal flashing on the bottom.

If you flashed it correctly with paper before installing, then all you need to do is install jamb extensions as Owen said. Rip a piece of wood on your table saw that extends beyond the T&G 3/4" (attach with finish nail gun), then use 1x4 casing to enclose the whole window as typical. Silicone the top and sides, leave the bottom open to allow moisture to escape.

Remove it, cut the nailing fins off and then install it as a retrofit window...trim like the rest.

Thanks, I was rushing through it so we could get our stuff in the place and start using it. It was a pretty silly thing to do, but I guess that's what happens when you rush!
