I own a small log cabin in Wisconsin. I recently bought an incinerating toilet and I'm getting ready to install it. The bathroom is very small so I am trying to plan ahead as I would also like to also install a shower enclosure in the future. My question is does anyone have any recommendations on very small shower enclosures? And where they can be purchased?

Yeah!!! Another Wisconsinite! Welcome! Where about is your log cabin?

I have seen corner shower enclosures that may help with your space restraints-any Menards store would have them or my other suggestion would be to build your own shower walls where you want them and then tile or stone the walls and floor or use a shower pan for the floor. Don't know how handy you are but I'm sure you could figure it out with some research and brain picking here! LOL!

Hello Trollbridge.
Thanks for the advice. I may consider making a custom shower, but prefer a premanufactured enclosure.
Our cabin is located in Vernon County near Readstown. How about your?

I have been considering going to an RV salvage yard and taking a shower out of a wrecked RV for my cabin. The ones at Home Depot, etc are larger than I want and pretty spendy.

Had to look that up....I see you are by LaCrosse. Is it real hilly there in Vernon County too? We are 11 miles south of Lake Superior near the town of Hawthorne-we are still working on completing the interior of our place.

Now that, Bzzzzzt, is the perfect solution! Brilliant thinking!

We have a small local builders supply chain here where I bought a plastic shower kit for $100. It has a formed base and the one-piece hard plastic walls come literally folded up in the carton. All hardware and plumbing was included. Measures 30"x 30" and even came with shower curtain rod and rings.
When I installed it I supported the side walls with 2x4 bracing and even added insulation to keep it quieter when in use. Essentially built the bathroom around this. No wasted space at all. I had serious doubts about how well made this was going to be but going on 3 years of use now and I still am impressed. Even the faucet hardware works well.
I don't remember the brand but if you are interested we will be at our cabin on Wednesday and I can look up the install manual if you are interested.

Yes we are at the top of a hill. The Kickapoo Valley is down below.

Very nice! If I ever need to look for land again I would look south because I love all the hills. We went north for the deeper snow for snowmobiling but I think many times you end up with more "down south" than we do "up north" lol!

Menards has a free standing shower, sounds similar to the one bobrok explained. 30x30 freestanding with faucet, curtain rod and the whole works. $199, I believe. I put that one in a cabin I built up by Park Falls. We also have one in our current cabin west of Phillips. Unless you custom build one, or use an RV shower, you probably won't find one any smaller, and probably don't want one much smaller than that anyway.

Can't help you with the shower, I'm still in my camper up around Phillips/Park Falls WI. But looking for ideas for my build, hopefully next year. I may just use the camper set up I have. It's a small tub with shower but very compact.

tsvoyager,

I built one about seven miles west of Park Falls, a 16x24, open concept with a small bathroom with sink, compost toilet and small shower. Also had a loft. That was my first build, just sold it this spring. Sat on 6x6 posts with 12" beam. Was built out of 6"x8" rough sawed timbers. Solar power at that one.

The other one was about 4 miles east of Park Falls, 24x32, two bedroom with loft. Electricity, well, septic, same kind of construction. On the South Fork of the Flambeau River. Sold that one and bought the one where I am now, which is about 16 miles west of Phillips, on Price Lake.

I think this is the one Josh was referring to:

Yep, that's the one. My grandparents (now my mom's) cottage has one like that (35+yrs old), the 24x32 cabin I built I used that exact one, and my cabin now also has that same style. They are easy to install, and hold up well. Keep in mind that its purpose is more for function versus looking pretty, but they are the best thing I have found for tight spaces.

If you really want to build something on a budget, you can do what I did on my 16x24, and that was a plastic washing machine liner pan, cut out for the drain, and used a 4'x8' vinyl panel cut down for the sides and glued to the wall in a corner, and use a half round shower curtain rod. That whole setup was less than $50, and would work well for occasional use, such as in a cabin.

Truck paint on bedliner over plywood works (several coats). Use some caulking to make the corners rounded. You can shape the pan out of pine to get the water to flow towards the drain.

I made a shower with a 35 gallon and 31" diameter galvanized steel tub. The tub has a hole cut out for a drain that then feeds to a horizontal waterless trap from HepvO. The curtain rod is 1/2" galvanized conduit formed with a conduit bender and suspended from the ceiling. An advantage to this setup is that the tub can be used for washing other things such as clothes.

Steve961-

Talk to me about the urinal on the wall. Where did you get it, what's it called and how much did you pay please?

Thank you,

Dajtcha:

It's a Waterless brand Santa Fe model waterless urinal. Waterless urinals use a cartridge trap with a layer of a mineral oil type substance that allows the urine to pass through. This model is made from a "High Performance Composite" resin and is fairly lightweight. but they also make some in vitreous china. The cost for mine was about $265. The best prices I had found on waterless urinals were at waterwisetech.net.

We all could Learn a Thing or 2 by how the rest of the world lives and deals with daily issues. Over in most of Europe the Bath Room is totally tiled there are not standing Baths or showers, there is a drain in the middle of the floor and bamm there you go the ultimate in simplicity.
Also in Europe this is where the Micro Home concept originated, the Ultimate use of every single sq/centimeter/Inch is considered.

Have you considered a built-in wall door that swings open to roll the free-standing incinerating toilet into ? I know those particular toilets can be smelly at times... burning poo does stick for a bit.....

But rolling that toilet into a hidden type cabinet built into the wall would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Get the toilet out of the way and also enclose the stinky toilet too. Then the small room could be tiled for a shower wand type thingy, where you could also mount it for a very small folding hand wash basin, when not in use folds down against the wall to have more room for the standing shower.

There you have it, a very small enclosed room fully tiled with drain in the middle of the floor, both containing a toilet, and hand basin sink, where they both either fold out of the way or roll into a cabinet hidden into the wall. WaaLaa issue solved, I saw this design on a design show I watched recently, it was a Brilliant idea and very Cheap also, except that Incinerating Toilet...like WOW those things are Pricey !

I too have the Menard's econo shower as was shown. It feels rather flimsy when you take it out of the carton, but when you install it with the proper bracing, it really is solid. The rails are more or less to keep the shape rather than to hang onto. The base is very solid and the cap at the top keeps everything in place. The hardware is fine and works well.
