I've got a year or so before we start on our little cabin, so between now and then I need to learn as much as possible. One thing I've been wondering: is there a specific way to nail studs to top and bottom plates? Or do you just throw a couple of nails in there and call it good? Jared

Nailing tables for just about every connection there is in a building can be found in the IRC. There is a lot of other info there too, even though some folks will thumb their noses at codes.
Online IRC 2012
Fastener Schedule for Structural Members Line 17, 18 for studs. These are minimums. Where they state 2, three is better. But too many may cause splitting and that's no good at all.
What version of the IRC is used varies state by state and even by city or county. Some jurisdictions omit some sections or edit them. The local bldg dept can tell you what is used. The above links are to the general unmodified IRC 2012
