Hello Fellow Cabin Junkies

I have to replace some of the 1x boards that make up the siding at the gable end of my roof; its a board and batten setup if you're familiar. Can anyone suggest a good exterior primer I should be using for the raw material? Its been a hot minute since i've been in the painting trade but in years past we always used Kilz oil based primer. Is this still a good option or are there better exterior primers available? Just curious before I go buying a quart of paint I potentially can't return.

I've even heard of folks shellacing the boards first then priming. The top coat will be whatever good exterior paint I can get to match what's there.

thanks

Go to a 'farm store' and find out what they have to use on farm buildings?
