Started yet for the season on your cabin?
I’m planning on the ice being out next weekend and getting started for the year. Having a load delivered to the shore next Friday which I will start to ferry across my lake. .
I’ve got a few big things to do this year:
1. Stairs up my cliff face- a 20 ft staircase, landing and another 20 ft staircase. 2. A 3rd 20ft staircase up a steep portion- not off the cliff face but a little further up the hill. 3. A 20x8 deck off the front of my screened in porch. 4. A 8x6 deck/landing off the back door of my cabin. 5. Interior sheathing and finishing.
I’ll have everything delivered next week except the interior stuff.
What are you working on?

Everything we didnt get done last year And ALL the new stuff my wife now wants...... If I was only 40 yrs younger! Rebuild 4 wall sections (cabin is 'post & beam' with filled in sections between the posts) to install windows. Kick back the woods on the west side in case of fire. Clean out deadfall Jack Pines and drop the standing dead. Clear and prep the spot to put the new pre-built 10x16 storage shed. Extend the driveway roadbed and bring in gravel another 100'. Build a boardwalk on the front door side to go to the 9x22 side deck. And on, and on, and on

More site prep..lumber costs are to darn high. Site prep is nearly free for us. Cleaning up old tree tops, cutting down trees that will block solar in the future and removing stumps that will be seen or in the way.

Doing the 'free work', sweat equity, yeah that! This proposed pre-built storage building at 10x16 is not the size I had initially wanted. The Old Hickory brand here are 2x what they were 2 years ago!

We're not interested in roughing it.
Last year I expanded the deck, added a gazebo and fire table, and installed LVP in the cabin.
This year I'll be installing a mini-split AC and heat pump, a washer and dryer, and a dishwasher.

Already started on #1, 2 and 3...
Water tank under cabin/winter water system - found and purchased the tanks... almost stole them!
Lodgepole deck/porch railings - have 300' of poles cut, found nearby. Need to cut another ~500' but that will replace all the PO's 2x4 railings so no rush. The new west deck is priority being upwards of 8' off the ground on the downhill side.
Log siding on west deck - framing almost complete, log siding on site. Hopefully completed this week or next.... we have had unbelievable winds for several days and they are expected to continue all week... 20-30mph sustained with gusts in the 60's, kind of hard to work in.
Replace boards front porch (pretty rough and ugly) - over bought 2x8x16 for west deck, going to return and get 2x6 in exchange. Got at least 11 - 2x8 so that is 75% of the bf I need for the front porch.... should help keep the cost manageable.
Pressure wash and stain back deck - have the stain on hand and a friend with a big pressure washer.
Shed cross bracing of piers - haven't moved in 2 years but would feel better.
Gravel driveway - talked to the hauler, dump truck down right now.
Finish yard west side, grass and gravel fire pit area - same guy that will haul the rock has topsoil.
I hope enjoy living up here and get in some more miles on the Colorado Trail.... we have hiked from Denver to near Lake City - 323 miles of the 486 miles hoping to do another 100 or so this year.
Also planned is to do some off-road trails with our neighbors. They have a Can-Am Maverick and we will be a bit more comfortable - less dusty, in the Tracker.
Oh and fishing!

Right now, I am working on enclosing the 'garage' portion of my carport conversion with siding. That way I can lock up my tools and my SxS. Then I can haul away my cargo box trailer that is doing duty as my garage.

Big carport, 36x20. Been collecting the materials for years, posts, rails, rafters, roofing... shouldn't have to buy much of anything. I'm actually more excited about getting all the materials out of storage than anything else. Not looking forward to the labor and heavy lifting, and not sure how much of this the old body can endure but should be the last big undertaking.

I’m building a “bath houseâ€. So far I’ve sourced a countertop, sink, shower stall, pump and Eccotemp shower, door, window, Separett composting toilet, small solar set up, rain barrel, window, and door.
Now I have to design around what I have and figure how to fit it all together. Should be an interesting challenge. I’ve got some challenges going on at home. I’m hoping that I get enough trips to the cabin this year to get it all done.
I’ll be excited to demolish my old, rundown out house.

Seeing this inflation coming, over the past two summers I crammed in 5 years of construction projects. So no time consuming projects of the sort for the next few years.
This year we are focusing on wildfire protective posture by clearing out the brush, willows and alders another 100 feet in all directions. We have about 200 feet around the house cleared, so another hundred will be nice. I also need to build a new set of trails to find suitable firewood. This will be a big project.

I've been slowly, over the years, excavating a parking spot/turn around halfway up my steep driveway. Whenever I have the backhoe up there I do a little. Last time I tried though I couldn't break much ground, so I grabbed a pick and shovel, only to hit solid rock. Not really solid, more like sand stone but a pick or sledge wouldn't crack it.
One of this mornings tasks was to fire up the generators to keep the fuel moving, I try to do it every month or two. This old Honda 1400 sits in storage for backup, but I thought what the heck, I'll drag it and the demo hammer up there and see what happens. Surprisingly it runs the hammer no problem, and the hammer breaks the rock easily. So that's now been escalated on the list of things to do, since the stuff is sitting there.

Do you have any pics of your outhouse that you can share? I've just decided that the out/bath house that I'm going to build will be 8x8 and I'm looking for ideas.
