Got out to the cabin this weekend.. barely.. Dammit had to dig the truck out twice. We really needed a snowmobile! My neighbour was driving by and seen our tracks in. He brought his big tractor and plowed for us (no little job as its 2/3 of a mile long). I insisted on paying him, but he wouldn't accept money, so I made sure he left with a nice bottle of spiced rum.
Anyway.. Here are a few photos of some of the work. Most of the insulated subfloor is now down. With the 2 layers of OSB and the 2 inches of foam its about R15. Our dog now approves and will lay on the floor! I'm just excited that liquid items we put on the floor away from the wood stove will no longer freeze!

Awesome! A warm floor makes all the difference. These winter camping booties are and awesome addition as well.

They have a water-proof bottom layer, and track in very little snow, so quick trips to the outhouse can be made without changing footwear.

Looking good. Yeah tractors, utvs, log splitters, stump grinders, wood chippers.. never thought I'd own any of that stuff until I got cabin life.

Unfortunately the gear I bought is just too small. That little Ford 9N can't plow near that much snow unless I was doing it every day. Our neighbour brought over a 120HP JD with a front end loader. It worked amazing.... I would love to have something like that, but I don't have an extra 80K laying around to buy one of those.
To the cabin floor.. We are using acoustical seal around the vapour barrier, then leaving a small "flap" that the subfloor and insulation will sit on. We are also leaving a gap around the perimeter for the drywall to slot into So it will go past the top OSB and insulation and sit on the bottom OSB, sandwitched between the insulation/osb and the studs. Definitely WAY overkill, but its also to ensure no critters can enter. I figure if its airtight, then the little buggers will have to chew their way in.
Even with only %60 of the floor insulated it was noticeable. We barely had to use any wood to keep the cabin at a comfortable 20C. Actually, it might become a problem as I think our wood stove is too big now!

I'd rather have that issue and be able to pop open a window for some fresh air to cool things down then having to run the stove plus other appliances full tilt just to keep it comfortable!

Huddling around a too small stove and having to rotate yer backside regularly is no way to enjoy cabin life....

Cool man ! I enjoy the snow so I'm in the right spot. We've had snow since near halloween. I need to get a hurry on as we only have a few more months to go. Beautiful wife said we go out for a week or so. Last time we planned on a week it got 25 below for another week. Yahooooo dreams do come true
That tracker is a neet little rig. And seems like a perfect fit for you needs. But a snogo should maybe be on your list. Could open up,a new world.

Travellerw.... glad you're getting some insulation down... we had the underside of our cabin spray foamed a couple years ago, huge difference!

I think this is directed towards me? The Tracker is the ticket for us! We do have a "snogo" as well, a Yamaha RS Viking Pro. Great machine though heavy but it will pull a load when called on to do it. Being one armed driving a snowmobile is a lot of work and my arm tires quickly.... very little pleasure riding as it isn't pleasurable after a few miles. Thanks! The cabin is getting there... lodgepole railings this coming year all the way around.

Was back up at my place in N Minn today and was surprised at the amount of snow here! At least 3ft on the ground in most places. I was also amazed at the fact that the roof is holding this much snow! W/ a 6/12 pitch and steel roof I wasnt expecting much on the roof.
It’s as Also very reassuring to see it still standing ;)

Nice pics guys..
We were out this weekend, but I totally forgot to take some more pictures. Its been snowing a ton out there and I would say its close to 3 feet now.
On other news I have a fantastic neighbor. He got the grader operator to plow my access road. It was really a godsend as if he didn't it would require a snow mobile to get in for sure.

We went up to the borrowed cabin on Superbowl weekend. Had the chance to plow out our build site thankfully. Hoping for a early spring start, but the 6" of new snow today reminds me to slow my roll a bit 😆
