Batt insulation will most likely deteriorate LONG before extruded polystyrene. Hell, they polystyrene on foundations where its buried in the ground. Been doing that for like 50 years.
Plus Batts lose R-Value over time due to settling. Rock wool is better, but still suffers from it. Rigid doesn't suffer from that issue at all.
Rigid is more work, but will yield a better result if done properly. At least that is my opinion!
