my parents have a cabin up in the mountains. I consider it one step above a tent...no running water..outhouse detached from the cabin...well they are getting up there in age and I want to make some changes so they can enjoy the cabin with what time they have left to go up there...so there are 3 projects I am trying to get attacked but not at the same time. build a room on the backside of the cabin roughly 13x20, indoor water(hot and cold), and make the porch a whole lot bigger. current porch is roughly 13x10ish...thats a guess..So with the current prices of material i am trying to figure out how to do this as cheaply as possible. I personally for a living buy storage units and there are times i get some unique things that can get repurposed and so i am trying to figure out the porch project. I got out of one of my units aluminum bleachers. Only the part you sit on...I have 24 of them...They are 15' long by 9.5" wide..guessing 2 inch thick....trying to decide how to make the most out of them...i am thinking about keeping them full length ...so if your standing in front of the cabin butt them left to right so making the new deck 15' deep and 24' wide...what ever 9.5' x 24 planks get you...or can use them as the rafters and then deck it with wood...what do you all think?

First off, I think it's great that you want to help your parents.
On the deck, maybe build it near the ground. Build add on out the back. Looks like maybe logs on cement under it now.
Building blocks with some gravel under them for drainage. Maybe brown all weather wood for the floor joists as near the ground. Might get by a while with regular grade if you put some 6 miles plastic sheeting under it for a vapor barrier. I would paint the boards with some mix matched paints marked down.
Good luck n stay positive

i am looking at doing the deck in the front...so was thinking about buying a post hold digger for my tractor so i can put footings(guessing 12"x16" deep) in...judging by the pic i am guessing the deck would be 3-4'off the ground...looking at installing a ramp on both sides for them so they can do down either side...i know eventually i will be attacking the back of the cabin for the room addition but i want to attack the front deck first and water in the house.
