I'm building 14' x 24' how should i do my floor sheathing layout? Am i supposed to stagger my sheets on the long side(t&g) and the short(48") side?

Just to be clear. If i start from 1 corner and do 3 full sheet(24') then i end up with a row of sheets 2' large along the long wall. Is that ok or should try to avoid that?

Run 8ft across the 14' direction then take the 2' piece and start the next row. Not sure what you will be left with at the end of the 6 rows to make up 24' but 2ft staggered is plenty.

IT Makes sense, i thought you were supposed to go perpendicular to the joists with the 8' side for Strength.

Run sheeting across the floor joist, stagger them like bricks. Never run sheeting longways the same direction as the joist. I assume you are using tongue and groove, glued and screwed?

That's what i thought, but what about the last row that is gonna be only 2' along the 24' wall? Yes tongue and groove.

Two feet wide is okay.

Id try to make the 2' run along what is likely to be the 'back side/furniture side' of the room.

Ok, thanks. We are starting the project this week. We are gonna set the blocks and beams made of 3- 2x10's pt and frame the first floor only before winter so we will be ready early in the spring. We will see if the blocks move and adjust them before sheating it. I'm not planning on covering the frame, for winter i don't know if it's a good idea. We'll see.

If you run the 8ft side across the 14ft direction your left with a piece 4x4ft. Then start the next row with that. You wont be left with much when all said and done.

Why not just go 16x24 and have no waste?

It's a rebuit in a flooded plain, so i need to keep the existing dimensions.
I won't be wasting(at least for the floor sheathing) cause i'm doing a full second floor(gambrel roof) so the piece left will be used for the same layout on the second floor. So i'm gonna go with the perpendicular layout and the 2' strip and maybe put a little more blocking under that part.

I don't follow your math on that. Or I don't understand what you mean?

The long dimension of a subfloor sheet always goes across the joists; perpendicular to the joists. If the joists run in the 14 foot direction as would be normal, that means three full width rows of 4 foot wide panels plus a row of about 2 feet.

Note that the T&G joint causes a loss of about 1/2" with most sheet goods. For example, the Advantech subfloor we most often used had actual face dimensions of approximately 47-1/2"x 95-7/8".
