Hi, were building a small cottage 12x28 plus the attached deck and screened in porch in central Frontenac Ontario, it's on top of a ridge with most of the legs on bedrock. I'm struggling to find the residential ( yes I'm zoned residential despite being off grid) requirements for footings. I'm assuming the width retirements will be the same 10" as a tube but what about height? Do i need to drill into the stone to anchor rebar through my footing ? Then does it have to be concrete all the way up to the beam anchor or can I have a 6x6 wood beam up to the height i need? Or, am I better off considering a slab ?

If you are in an area with zoning is there not also a building permit and inspection department? They would have the answer.

They would I'm just going to get advice without dealing with my building inspector but you're right, probably my best bet and they've been ok at answering questions in the past. The municipality is a bit of a pain to deal with, I've had to go back and forth on survey requirements entrance permit civic address grey water etc. I'll send him a message and see if it's the same advice i get here.

12x28 without any porches included? Have you thought about making it wider and less skinny?

Ya that's just the plans I purchased and it's on a small 1.5 acre waterfront completely off grid, something massive would be overkill. I'm building a raven house , with an attached bathroom. This will save me a ton on lumber and be an easier build, wider would be even harder to do footings. Below is a video of the same cottage as mine but I think without the attached bathroom
