Hi,
We recently had the chimneys cleaned in our log cabin. The wood cook stove vents out through the wall and the existing thimble was not insulated nor did it have clearance. The chimney sweep found the existing thimble was almost failing in at least one spot. Yikes.
So....having a chimney shop install a 6 inch insulated thimble.
My big concern is enlarging the existing hole in the wall - the tech plans to use a sawzall to make it bigger. This is a 45ish year old cabin with 6 inch logs. There is a window a few feet away.
The thimble will have to connect to the outside cinderblock (CMU) pipe.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. I do have a photo but not sure how to attach it here.

Enlarging the hole should be no problem, provided you don't run into structure, plumbing, or wiring.

Hi- Thank you for the reply. There is no power or water in the cabin- just the log wall and worry about the weight of the snow in the winter.
There are several courses of logs still that will be above the hole.

As long as there is a solid log run above the hole everything above is supported. This isnt like cutting a hole for a picture window.

Yes - at least two or three solid log runs above.
@Brettny - Yes! Upgrading to proper insulated pipe.
