My well shack, 8x16, needs a roof. I have the shingles already. My local lumber yard is having a sale, there's a stack of 1x12 pine, 26 sixteen footers, for $100. Could I use this for sheathing instead of plywood? Not worried about shear, not a windy spot and it's a well shack. Want to get over there asap and snag it if it will work, seems like a great price.
1"x12" #2 Knotty Pine 26@16', 1@12' - $100

I don't see why that shouldn't work. At that price, beats 4 sheets of plywood or OSB even I think now.

Thanks Steve. Well I went and got it after checking todays HD 1/2 plywood, $70! And with the pitched roof and eves I would need 8-4x6 pieces, so somewhere around $500.
Even if I don't use it, 1x12x16s are somewhere around $35 each, I'll find a use for it. I should only need half of what I got for the roof.

I would have bought that! Funny how a lot of people dont seem to know one can 'build with boards' rather than sheet products.

Those studs aren't a bad deal either at $4.50, $8 at HD right now. Little old looking though. I don't need them at the moment but will probably regret it later, especially if this ridiculous market continues. If they were full 96" I'd probably bite.
