Hi, Rebuilding a covered porch floor what would be the best wood choice for the floor? I don't want to use pressure treated. Porch is 8' x 12'
I have access to black walnut, and cedar but can also get something else. Keep going back and forth. Any advice?
thank you

With lumber price up as high as they are with no sign of dropping soon, why not look in to synthetic’s? Composite lumber has come a long way.

I would look at what a local lumber yard offers. Deck boards are not hard to make from 2x material esp for a 8x12' porch. Cedar would be a good choice.

I used trex deck and put in on 4 years ago. Still looks like new and I haven't done a thing for it.

Irrigation guy your porch is #2? It looks prety darn clear to me.
For me our porch is going to be covered so il use PT. Rain and sun are the two major things that destroy decking. Not much of an issue with a roof over it. Depending on PT prices at time of the build I may just saw my own pine boards for it and stain them.

I dont think he has a cheap option that would be worth a darn, treated, synthetic or cedar. Most of it will be out of the weather, so some nice doug fir 2X6, but those are pricey too. For an 8 footer, $12 each!

Hello
I ended up using 5/4 Sapele for the floor with 12" on center joists. Thanks for your help and advice!
