Rockwool and John Manville seem to be the 2 big players..aside from price(~11% difference), any big differences between the 2 in terms of quality/effectiveness?

I've been given the green light to proceed by the BI so it's wall insulation time! I'm planning to do wool insulation in the walls. A few months back i installed Rockwool around the pellet stove to help retain some heat and i really liked working with that product. Unfortunately the local Lowes (only one that sells Rockwool locally) does not have any inventory of the size i need. Closest location is a 200mi round trip.

My local Menards does have John Mansville mineral wool in stock and it's slightly cheaper. Wondering quality/performance wise if one is better than the other as they are both rated at R23. Any thoughts?

The non rockwool brand is miserable to work with. The extra cost is well worth it if you can find it. Otherwise mask up!

Congrats on the green light!

Yeah, I haven't used the Rockwool brand, but from videos, etc, seems to be much stiffer than the Johns Mansville..... The JM stuff fell apart easily, like between layers, and was floppy, harder to hold in place. I get the impression the rockwool stuff has more binder to keep it more rigid.

...but Menards 11% rebate...

At least that's how I justify to myself half the things I buy there. LOL

Congrats on the green light.

Look around for a builders supply company in your area. They are usually better stocked than the retail players and offer prices at least on par with retailers. If your a smooth talker you can usually get %8-10 off of that.

There should be at least 2 or 3 such companies in larger cites (750-1mil) and they will have Rockwool in stock.

Thanks for the thoughts fellas!

Sounds like i'm taking a drive to Milwaukee!

Yeah, the Rockwool stuff was super easy to work with. A bread knife and i was set, i actually enjoyed installing it because it was so easy to work with.

so does Home Depot, as well as Lowes (if you buy in bulk).
