A spiral staircase is 1000x better than a ladder.

Thoughts on vertigo. With narrow stairs and spiral stairs, you will have issues going down and looking down the stairs. With a ladder or spiral ladder, you look straight at the ladder and shouldn't need to look down. I don't have issues with vertigo, but my wife does on many staircases. No issues that I know of on a ladder, though.

I tend to be pretty good with spacial relationships but I just dont 'see' where a spiral sc takes up less space than a reasonably narrow cabin stairs (narrower than a typical house sized anyway).
And other than the very lower spiral there is no storage possible under that, unlike the stairs.
What dont I get?

Absolutely nothing, IMO. Plus they are often considered more dangerous, especially the variety that are built with no risers.

So we just got back from a winter trip to the cabin. Had a great time. I said I would take pictures of our spiral staircase for NorthRick. So I have attached some. I know it's not for everybody but it works for us. It's built into the corner of a small addition off the main build. It's very solid and was a cheap build. They are easy to climb as well. The pictures are not great but here they are...
