Hello All,
As a commercial contractor I come across lots of left over/ over ordered materials with that said I have bunch of 22 gauge commercial roof decking and was wondering if that could be wiped down with mineral spirits or something and painted and used as a roof?
Thanks, Scott

For the cost of actual metal roofing it hardly seems worth the effort

If it's really unused this seems like a no-brainer for me, with the materials cost these days. You can probably flip it for a decent $ amount on Craigslist or Facebook, if not it's definitely recyclable. Might as well earn some bucks for a minimum amount of work.
Aside from that - unless it's some crazy color why wouldn't you want to use it as-is?

I have been doing a fair amount of metal roofs the last few months ,and there is no increase in price that I can see over the past few years in the product .I would use it for my own projects .

The best thing about that is that it is 22 gauge. My guess is that it is galvanized or maybe primer over galvanized; is it? Almost anything you use to paint it will not be as durable as the coating that comes on steel roofing. Does that matter? As for myself, if I did not like the natural galvanized finish on that material I would buy whatever new panels in whatever color I liked. Maybe use that on a barn or utility building.

Ime paint doesnt last on galvanized, at least typical diy re-paint. My guess is that stuff that will stick is expensive. Legally acquired and resold to buy what you really want/need makes sense.

If it's free I would just use it as is for a shed or wood shed roof.
Galvalume metal roofing @29 gauge is $1.5 per sqft. Any good coating may cost a few bucks too not including labor and prep for a product that's not made to do what your trying to do with it.

I’ve seen both cladding and roofing that has been painted but is flaking off. Looks really bad and if course never gets fixed.
Galvanized roofing/cladding can also be used indoors so there’s lots of potential projects for it.

I believe the material has a pre installation oil type coating , which can be wiped down with something i'm sure.
