Assuming I have the required clearances is there an issue with a woodstove being near windows? They will be modern double pane. My current layout plan has the stove near a window.

How near is near? I have never seen a rule on glass to stove clearance. The rules are from stove or chimney pipe to combustibles.
There is potential thermal shock or expansion issues when it would be very cold outside. Even if the glass did not break I wonder if there could be an increased likelihood of the sealed unit leaking because of extremes in temperature. No idea, just thinking.

I have one that's about 4ft away and faces my wood stove for about 5 yrs. No issues. You prob wont find a clearance to a window because its non combustible and that's all the manufacturer really specs out.

There was a thread on here a year or two ago with a beautiful window, stained glass I think, with the stove in front of it, and some talk about the affects. Tried a search but didn't find it. Anyone remember?

My woodstove is only about 2-3' away from a double pane window. It's been in place for years without any problems.

Interesting question
January this year was the completion timeframe for my cabin - so the wood was still damp, etc
See below where my stove and 1 window is located
Mid January, we went to the cabin and it was around -15F/-26C.................so a little chilly with a lot of snow and freezing inside as well
We put the stove on and had it fully stocked and roaring for hours
We ended up with a huge crack on this window, full length of the glass pane (double paned and new window)
Got it replaced under warranty!!
But the guy did put it down to .............
Per ICC above
"........thermal shock or expansion issues when it would be very cold outside. "

Nice looking cabin! I like the deer head artwork on the wall, I hunt but I've never been one for stuffed heads on the wall (though I have the skin as seen in my picture), but that artwork is nice. Is it a drawing on the wall or a wire sculpture?

I would have never thought that thermal extremes could crack a window. My stove is by a window, will have to keep an eye on it.

Its actually a wire "sculpture" which from a distance does look as though it has been carved into the wood - now that would be nice!

I agree - the wet structure and the extreme cold, aligned with the heat from the fire - a perfect storm
Structure shrinking and then the extreme on the window - one of them cracked it thats for sure!

I remember that. One commentor's solution was to put metal artwork between the stove and the window.

Very cool. I remember seeing that post. I will see what I can do to plan stove layout away from windows but I do have access to a automated plasma cutter so I will keep that idea in the mental rolodex.
