I have noticed the "small" in small cabin forum has been creeping up/increasing in size... Just wonder how small can we get. Myself and I and the lady wife are at 8x12 with 6" walls which translates if my maths are correct to 7x11= 77 sq ft sorry, olde school I don't have the conversion to metric. (We do have a sea can for storage tho) I have seen a couple of 8x8's with two levels tho.... We were used to car camping and backpacking so this glamping type thing was easy for us...

Not sure there is a size limit... large or small, maybe more a lifestyle than a size thing on this forum from what I've seen. Doing a little Googling I see Tiny houses are described as being between 100-400sqft, small homes between 409-1,000sqft. At 77sqft.... you apparently have a micro cabin!

Likely depends how you use it, how many use it and how often you use it when deciding what your "small cabin" looks like. I'm guessing many places, like our area, there are county/district/etc. rules governing what the minimum size the cabin can be. Our area minimum is 600sqft... our cabin has a 572sqft, footprint with a 209sqft loft. We live pretty much fulltime there.... 77sqft, if you love it great!

I appreciate the area thing. In England there is a occupancy period for "caravan parks"/just like the RV/parks in CA... (not sure where you are writing from.... and alas I gather Canada is not the greatest place these days.... sorry.... CA moment I think... as in SK Canada... Some rm's are getting very strict on the size one can have of "cabins"... Our little shack is on skids..yet a "cabin on wheels ie rv trailer seems okay).. so it is not "firmly" attached...it gets moved every 8 months.... due to frost....

Itsnt it a bunk house if all you can do in it is sleep and put your shoes on to leave?

I think what makes it a cabin would be the kitchen, even if it's a dry cabin.

A 6x10 cabin can have a "kitchen": cooler on the deck outside, fold down table inside, a little butane burner on the fold down table. Water jug on a shelf. Voila!

If you are looking to save floor space in a
"Small Cabin".
You can put a complete kitchen in the same space as a bay window, and not lose any floor space.
In a 2 x 5 foot bump out. You can put in a small double sink, a camper size stove, a few drawers, and even a small mini fridge with mini freezer under the sinks.
If you are creative you can easily fit a small water jug, with a 12 volt pump, or even a rechargable pump and shower wand from amazon for not much
money. You can drain the sinks thru the floor to a catch bucket underneath the bump out.

If your going to build I would build to the max to be under needing a permit. The cost difference between a 6x10 vs a 12x12 is very minimal.

I live in a tiny house that's 150 square feet, but it's just me. I figure you want just enough room for some bunk beds and a kitchenette. You're going to spend most of your time outdoors anyways.

It could be as simple as a shelter like on the AT. I'd figure space enough for beds, kitchenette, walking room between, maybe some small storage.
