I made reference to a new tool that I recently got to use while cutting fire wood. The post was deleted. If board members who cut their own fire wood are not interested , or feel it is spam . I will drop the subject, for some one like myself that has trouble reaching , to pick up. I like it. old243

Are you sure your post actually posted? I’ve had that happen before and just assumed it was user error as there was no reason for it to be removed.

Based on the description, my guess is he is referring to a pickaroon/hookaroon.

Thanks for the replys. I was referring to log or firewood tongs. They are similar to the big log tongs used in logging, They have a set of tongs and you hold them by a handle. I have 2 , the larger ones will pick up blocks 4 to 12 inch in diameter, which is about all I can lift. The smaller set is up to 8 inch, we keep these in the woodshed , to handle firewood, my wife uses these to fill the firewood carrier. Says she doesn't end up with slivers now. I had trouble reaching down to pick up firewood blocks in the bush, after I had the tree all blocked up. Just slip them over the block about the center and lift. I got mine from Amazon, but likely available where chainsaws were sold. Look for firewood lifting tongs. They cost about 40.00 each but are worth every penny. old243

I'm gathering up log tools in prep for my log shelter. I have gotten a Earth Works Timber jack and a Peevee. Timber jack will work great for cutting firewood without hitting the dirt and for shaping the ends too for building. Log roller is always needed.

I looked at the timber jack too. It gets the log up out of the dirt. I was blocking a tree up the other day. Thought there was room to under cut , the block. Sparks flew, hit a stone, time to resharpen. I usually take a sharp extra chain with me. Just a few minutes getting it changed and back to cutting . Good luck with your log building.old243

Log skidding set-up, I've since added a tail skate to minimize sand & dirt.

I think he is talking about something like this. You lower them down over a piece of firewood and when you lift they grap onto the wood. Makes it easy to pick up wood with one hand.

That looks pretty handy. I have a pick a roon. Works good. But getting that little hook on the end just right is giving me trouble after I thought I was going to touch it up. Oh well another learning experience. Yee ha.
