Hello, I am new to the forum and have not been able to track down anything answering my particular question. I have a cabin that over the past couple of years a "white haze" or white streaking has seemed to creep into some of the interior log faces in random areas. I can find spots in every room. I am wondering if anyone can help me identify what it is/whats the cause? It does not rub off or change when rubbing with hand or cloth. I appreciate the help! IMG_2523.JPG

Are the logs finished with anything, or bare wood?

The logs are finished with Early American stain no clear. The bare wood pic above is a set of doors with the same issue. Stain was done 40 years ago.

We see white mold that stains and is dry to the touch in New England.

I am in NH. Every pic I have seen of white mold seems to start off by being "fluffy" or at least protrude in some way from the wood. Would the staining be remnant after cleaning something like that off or could it start in a fashion like the pics show?

I'm no expert, but I have seen such white srains in Dummer, NH. I've seen it smooth more than puffy. I don't get it on bare wood in my cabin, but see it on bare wood in the outhouse. I never tried to get rid of it, but I'd see what happens if you wipe it with alcohol.
