My wife and I just bought this little gem on a river in northern Minnesota, gonna start by removing the popcorn ceiling in the log part and go to a vaulted ceiling.. P3020076_1.JPG

Caution, lots of popcorn ceiling has asbestos in it.

Nate, 2.5 acres and about 25 feet from river.. Toyota, I don't think the ceiling is very old but i'll be careful..

Dixie, if there is any doubt, you can have a sample tested, but you might not want to draw attention. A sprayer bottle fill with water, you can mist the area you are scraping, should be fine. But if its not old as you mention, you are probably fine

Dixie, I cant tell, but your stove pipe doesn't appear to have the special class A stuff from ceiling to outside. It looks like galvie metal pipe all the way up.
You will want a support box at ceiling and the good class A from that point up, including through the roof.
Work is looking good. I think what you are doing is better in the end. Safer, solid etc.
