Hello I'm Dan and I live in Wisconsin. I've been lurking for about 6 months. My wife and I are in the early stages of building or buying a basic cabin. (No bathroom or plumbing) Not sure if we're building a garage kit and converting or buying a prebuilt roadside deluxe building and converting. Thanks for the forum and I just wanted to say I lurk no more. I'm sure I'll have far more questions than answers however.

Thanks I'm probably going to need the luck! I originally looked at a Amish built log cabin but it got very expensive fast. Today I'm going to check out a gently used (repo"d) 16x40 prebuilt portable sh-abin.

Welcome! Do you already have a place to put/build a cabin?
We're doing something similar, in NE WI. Just got my permit for our off-grid cabin build. So, also no bathroom or plumbing for us. Been using our land that way for a couple years now already.
Built our outhouse in 2016, and it's been doing great. Smell-free, fan going 24/7.

Nate R thank you. We have shared ownership of 60 acres in Shawano county. My wifes brother already built a garage kit cabin on it. I'm leaning towards the portable building for tax reasons as well as permit type reasons. Looks like it would just be classified as an outbuilding and we can continue as agricultural land.
