Was wondering what people call their cabin/slice of paradise?
Hopefully not "Money Pit" or something akin to that.
We call ours "Ruddy Duck Lodge" after the many ruddy ducks that nest on our pond. We think it is fitting as ruddy ducks are small but have an attitude. Just like our little shed and property.

Everything at our cabin has a name relating to bullfrogs or just frogs. (Even though we have no bullfrogs in our lake, only leopard frogs.) Our cabin is the Bullfrog or Frog Lodge. Our combination sauna, bar, food/canning kitchen is the Bullfrog Event Center, and specifically the sauna is called the Double D (Hmmm), and the bar, just the Bullfrog Bar. We haver an annual gathering centered around wild rice harvesting that I call the Bullfrog Annual Rice Festival, or BARF. My wife hates that so I just use it to iritate her a little.

A friends cabin, when they first bought the place, had to tear down the original structure and it was full of bats so they named the new cabin "Bat Haven"

About a hundred years ago, literally, my grandfather was growing up on a farm on a hill known to the community as Blaine Hill. They might not have had an actual address, but everyone around knew where Blaine Hill Farm was. More recently, my parents owned a vacation cottage. They sent away in the mail for one of those custom metal signs you bolt to the house that said "Blaine Hill Cottage". My folks have since sold the cottage, but I thought I would keep the tradition alive by building Blaine Hill Cabin.

For the last several years that we have tent camped at our place the coyotes have hunted across the ridge after dark. They yap and carryon like a bunch of teenagers. We have beautiful dark skies at our place. I have a 10" telescope waiting to go to mtn. so it has become the Coyote Ridge Observatory.

We have a big blue fir tree in front of our place as well as an old labrador retriever named "Blue", so we call our place the "Blue Fir Cabin".

"White Birch Acres" Due to the number of White Birches surrounding the hidden meadow where our cabin is located.

As you might guess, we call our place the Sound and Fury Cabin, even though the cabin is not yet built. Sound because it's on Howe Sound, BC. Fury for the violent northerly gales that gust down the sound in winter, sometimes reaching hurricane force.

Still torn about what to call it - I have fond memories of a place in the Berkshires way back in the '70s called "Momma's Dream Away Lodge," so thought of that, but when my friends hear about my place, they tend to opt for "Dave's Folly." :)

When we first saw the place it had a sign on it that said "the broken branch" which the previous owners took with them. It sounds neat but I wold prefer a new name. We were kicking around different names like the Fat Squirrel or the Lazy Beaver, but I kinda want it to sound equally good in French so I dunno yet. Another property on our road has a sign that says "Christine's Cove" presumably because the property is on the stream as well. It looks and sounds really cool. I would recommend "The Hovel" or "person's-name" 's Hovel. for someone who is defiant and anti-establishment.

How about something with fireflies in the name in recognition of your firefly population: Also called glow worms, lightning bugs. The latin family name for the group is Lampyridae.
Not sure how these would translate to French as my French is cereal box style and about the same level as (if you are of the age to remember) former PM JD Diefenbaker.
Not that I am biased toward anything "buggy" lol

Neat name.
Off Topic: I picked up a 12.5" Discovery made split tube dob from a lady a few blocks away to go along with my 8" dob.
The 12.5 is sure a nice scope but our weather this winter has been such that I have only been out about 4 hours since Oct. When it is above -10 (a nice winter observing temp in these parts) it has been cloudy and when it has been clear it has been -30 or lower (not so nice!).
Oh well will get to use them sometime..... Clear skies!

Quoting: bugs I picked up a 12.5" Discovery
bugs, you are on topic since my place is named as an observatory. That Discovery is a really nice scope. If you can get that to some dark skies you will have an amazing view. It seems now that I have a scope that the winter weather has been cloudier than usual.
Clear skies!

I hope to get the Discovery scope out to the shed sometime this year. As you say it should put on a good show in a dark sky setting. Until then the 8" is my "grab n go" scope for the shed.
Ah the curse of the new telescope.

LoL.... My back will cure the aperture fever (the 12.5" is 100lbs in 3 pieces) as will my pocket book. I have promised myself not to spend anymore money on this fickle hobby. I recently bought 4 eyepieces (thankfully not tv's nagler (still have to pay our land mortgage!!) just Baader's and a 30 mm, 80 degree, 2" Owl). So no more spending.

I call mine the north slope. When entering my land I see the north slope first and is loaded with cedars. I first saw it in the winter and that is what it reminded off.

Mine is called Rivercamp - simple and sweet. On a river in the adirondacks, started with bare property and had a tent. After some interaction with a bear a popup was in order but after 2 years a 12X20 cabin with a loft was built. It's still just basically a big shed with a few garage sale pieces of furniture, but what a wonderful place to get away. Long story short - I had always wanted one of those log cabin places that I could afford after maybe 20 years of saving, but this gives me all I need and want (and the real goal is the things outside of the walls). Someday I may be able to upgrade, but not sure if I would even want to. Thanks to all for seeing that getting away for some us doesnt have to mean going from one crazy busy place to another!

The Fortified Compound. My son calls it the Stabbin Cabin. Hmmm. Maybe all that money for therapy was wasted. Actually he is a good kid as long as you keep rope, duct tape and sharp tools away from him. Cordless drills are also a no no.
