Came across this guy, Cowboy Kent Rollins a while back and have been trying out his recipes.....used one last night to liven up the leftover turkey - Enchilada Sauce...so good.

His thing is Cast Iron/Dutch Oven cooking. Used to be a camp cook for cattle drives, and his recipes are exactly what you'd expect - hearty.

We got into dutch oven cooking a couple years ago out at our desert place. It is fun and takes ya back in time, but it is not quick.....or easy.....we find the food to be delicious though, nothing like it! We're building an outdoor area with smokers/grills/cast-iron pits etc.

Here are a couple of Rollin's videos for anyone who is interested.....I'd like to hear if anyone here has tried cooking like this...? Any tips or recipes?

For those who don't have a dutch oven yet.

So far it's the "Lodge" brand that's at the top of both reviews.

Cool....Most of those are enameled though. I prefer cast iron. will be getting a new one soon to have an extra.....
never buy cheap cast iron, the lids must have a tight seal or nothing will cook....ask me how I know...

One thing to remember, regular cast iron cookware must be "seasoned" before you can use it. Some companies sell "preseasoned" cast iron cookware to save you the trouble.

Hi there! First of all I would like congratulate you for joining our community wink

If you're beginner in raw diet, I can recommend you to start from next food: citrus fruits (it's good to make different salads), sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seeds, coconut kefir, standard raw veggies of course like carrots, celery, peppers, tomatoes, etc., watermelon and cantaloupe. Also I recommend you to use olive and coconut oil, because it is more healthy than sunflow oils.

Not to steal the thread from Dutch Ovens but sticking with the cooking theme, we had a discussion on an alternative back in 2015 - the Can Cooker. Loved the first one I had so picked up a second (one for the cabin, one for home) and use them often. At the cabin normally just use in on the two burner but have also put it on the fire where it works just as well (just takes longer to clean the soot off the bottom). Thread Can Cooker

Hi Amanda - You misunderstood - I'm not going for a raw diet, exactly the opposite...I plan on starting the recipes with bacon grease or lard, and finishing with massive amounts of cheese and hot sauce......and bacon....

Although I use a dutch oven occasionally, this past summer was the summer of the outdoor wok.

You can get a steel wok and propane burner off amazon for around $45. It is amazing what you can whip up in it. It was a lo mein and fried rice summer and the kids loved it.

Bo, Amanda's post is spam. She posted her location as Germany written in Russian. And the link - which I did not click on.

Yes, I am sure he knows that, reason for his sarcastic post and all the high fat bacon, lard comments.

I love my smoker (Green Mountain Pellet Smoker), I love my charcoal BBQ, but lately, I have been absolutly smitten with my Blackstone flattop griddle/Grille.

I got the medium size one (about 22 inches) and I have cooked everything from bacon and eggs to burgers to fajitas on it. Its my current favorite outdoor cooking appliance.

What a waste of a good mango!

I solve my dirty sink problem with a good spray of peroxide, let it sit to bubble than rinse.

The mangos I eat. On sale 4/$5 at Publix. In Hawaii I know of a few places to pick wild mangos.

I too like cast iron and also the dished top for adding briquettes on the lid.
