The honey truck arrives! Pump-out and clean was a bargain at $25.

Not having luck with pictures tonight... Anyway, the porta-potty is a more pleasant place now. The guy recommended adding saltwater to prevent freezing in the winter. Would keep the creepy-crawlies down in the summer, too!

More than every penny! Did you really write "25"?

Where I live, NOBODY would drive specialized equipment to my house, and "do a job" and take away refuse, for $25.

There now, don't y'all wish you had a cuppa joe and a magazine?

All cedar, all old-school (not even a drywall screw - visible).

After several visits over two years to our property (505 miles from home) and using the "au naturale" method, I decided to prefab a 4 foot square outhouse using T-1-11 siding over a 2x4 framework attached to a pressure treated platform of 2x6s and 3/4 inch PT plywood and home-built roof trusses. I have vents for "the box", screened soffits, and a screened gable end vent on the back of the structure. The green painted boards were 1"x6" lumber that I removed from the ceiling of my family room when I remodeled the room. I milled shiplap edges of the boards of the gables so they overlap and added a V-groove for architectural interest. The green corner boards were milled from the same source. The only nails used were the nails used on the gable ends, the corner boards and shingles, so I can take it apart if I have to by removing screws. The siding was stained with a cedar-colored stain. I should have stained the siding when I had it disassembled and horizontal. There is a small opening above eye level when seated on both sides with a sliding cover on the inside that can be closed for privacy or when no one is at the camp. Only problem, it is 135 feet from the cabin, too long a walk for the misses at night. At least the way is lighted with solar landscape lighting. I built the thing to last as long as someone keeps the roof in good condition and periodically maintains the exterior stain and paint. BTW, the camp is just a small piece of what used to be the family farm, now reverting to a natural state since last tilled in the 1960s except areas that we want to keep clear for the views and access.

Poo with a View. North Idaho.

Here is our outhouse at our cabin. It overlooks the valley out the window. It is insulated for winter. T&G pine and hickory floor from leftovers from the cabin. Ventilated and has a sort of crude septic drain field, kind of... It fills full with water from snowmelt and drains off. Requires no maintenance other than a little barn lime occasionally. We heat it with a Mr Heater Buddy.

We have seating for everyone, folks! The toddler potty is for the youngsters, the Loveable Loo is there temporarily until we get an outbuilding set up... Good viewing of the valley from any seat, and you can guess which one is the most popular at keg parties...
Have a seat!

Yeah baby. So glad I finally have an outhouse and can contribute to the fun. It's not done, but it's close, and more importantly, functional.

Admin's note: Update in sabiggs' thread

This is our ancient "outhouse", an old fiberglas pott of 70's vintage. I've toyed with painting it up to look like a phone booth or a submarine conning tower.

Something like this?
