Love the signs, I don't want to hijack this thread but would love if you could start a new thread with info on the family forest program. I went to the USDA's site but wasn't sure where to start there.

Quoting: NorthRick It's fixing to get even colder up there over the next few days. I'll be curious to hear how it does in subzero F temps. How is the photo quality? At night? Sorry Rick, Just saw this.
I installed the camera early November. I put 12 Energizer AA lithium batteries in it. As you suggested, battery performance seems to be very weather dependent.
Last week we saw about the whole range of temps which gave some good perspective. Early in the week we saw temps in the -12F region, which made battery percentage drop to 60%. Later in the week I caught temps at 30F which made battery register 100%.
So clearly it is temperature dependent, however after two months of consistent operation with it sending me no less than 2 check in photos a day (more when it senses movement, although there are VERY few false triggers) I am please that it can still register 100% battery life, even in only 30F.
I'll attach some night shots from it in another post (from my phone).

Quoting: NorthRick How is the photo quality? At night? In an effort to maximize battery life, and because my service coverage in that area is 'moderate' I chose to send lower resolution photos to phone. (I think these would be a 2 on a 1-5 scale of quality).
So this is what you can expect on the lower end of the quality spectrum. I was more concerned about timeliness of the transmission as I often have friends in the area I could call to secure the property should there be trespassers.
Anyways, a few photos to show the range of things. I do think my night photos would be better if the camera was a bit closer to the cabin so it could reflect off it better, however I didn't have a better mounting location available. I do think the night photos will be better once I get cabin walls up and the IR flash has something to bounce off of.

Bradish I'm not sure what camera you have but I put a extended cell antenna on mine (the one with about a 10ft wire) I screwed it to the tree above the cam. It gave me enough service to use the camera on a food plot i could get pics before. I believe it was about $14.

I'll look into that if I have issues. Thanks.

Quoting: paulz So how does the juice get over to the camera side? Through the hinge, with brushes? I'll bet its a ribbon cable inside the hinge. Like a laptop.

MPF, I am a member of the National Woodland Owners Association and you can buy the signs from them. There is also the American Tree Farm System, they wanted too much control over what I was to do. Not my cup of tea. So that was out. I make the rules on my place.
I se this question was asked a while back, I apologize, just saw it.
As for game cameras, I did buy 2 Moultries for Verizon, going to build some boxes to house them with a large battery and a small charge controller so it will run indefinitely on solar and leave them both at the cabin.

In the 2years since the last posting, I am wondering? Have there been new products that came out? Upgrades to existing cameras? Lessons learned in placement or cell reception? Thanks
