No questions asked by Spypoint about where you bought it, receipts, warranty when they replaced all mine.

I figure they probably make about 10 bucks on the camera sale, the monthly plan charge goes on and on. Better for them to have that.

Well, ya could just put a 'please close the gate' sign on it (even tho ya shouldnt have to) or the 'smile, youre on camera' sign.

Got that already, 8x12, right above the gate. I have a bumper sticker from the rod and gun club I belong to, maybe I'll put that up too. I recently took the no trespassing sign off the gate, makes it look uninhabited.

I didn't want the wind to catch the sign and knock it over.

Hey did you get that sign from the National Woodland Owners? I never read the monthly rag.

I bought this little camera the other day on a whim, $10. Online shopping gets addictive, good thing I'm cheap. It's about a one inch cube. Li battery, USB charge, motion detection, SD card storage, video and stills.. Came with about the worst Chinenglish instructions so I checked online, turns out they are a pretty popular thing with lots of English instructions. I'm still testing it out and learning the capabilities but have managed to record some motion detected video. Plan is to have it in the cabin. Can also be a dashcam, bodycam..not sure about outdoors.

With all the replacements camera were you able to use the referral program on each adding spypoint dollars?

Did you ever figure out why the "AA" battery tray has 4 battery terminals and the 12V rechargeable only has the 2 on the left side? I measured the "AA" tray and there is 6v on each side

Never tried the referral program.

Yeah the tray is 6v per side. I never got one of their rechargeables. I'm running both of mine with external 12v batteries using the jack. Nothing in the battery trays.

Fwiw, Think I saw that little camera, as well as a number of the TV info-mercial products, at our local Menards.

I've been playing around with it, in fact it's on right now at the cabin. I have it on motion detect, it records for 5 minutes when activated. With a 32gb SD card it could go a long time. The major complaint with these is the tiny Li battery. I found a hack online and replaced the battery with an external usb cord, which is plugged into cabin power.

That is sounding like a cheap hackable unit I could get into

Here's a strange one for the Moutrie guys. I was fooling around with mine the other day and noticed the batteries go in one half, the camera and all are on the other. The side with the batteries is all there is on that side.

So how does the juice get over to the camera side? Through the hinge, with brushes?

Probably a simple answer, gonna make me look stupid, but I need to know...

Just to add to the pile here -

I just bought and placed my first cellular trail camera to monitor our site (an hour and a half away from home).

I bought the Tactacam Reveal X for $115 online. It has a $5/month plan up to 250 photos. It seems to be working quite well for us. Uses 12 AA Lithium, but so far it is performing well in the cold (0-30F).

It transmits photos via cell signal, so some level of coverage is a requirement. Mine is adequate. I have it set to send me a daily check in photo. Otherwise it has only gone off once - with what appeared to be snow falling from a branch above it.

It's nice to feel I have an eye on the place as I have all of my building materials sitting under the foundation waiting for me for spring. Overall I would recommend it!

Bradish,

Which cellular company is providing the service? I'm having trouble finding something to use through Verizon. I haven't looked very hard, though. The camera I mentioned above won't work with Verizon, from what I'm reading. T-mobile does not cover my area.

The Tactacam Reveal X comes in two models, one through the AT&T Network, and one through Verizon. They have no bearing or relation to your personal cell plan (these plans are standalone), paid through the Tactacam company portal.

They also have another newer model that supports both carriers, and I believe you can freely switch between them (not 100% sure how that works). However the option didn't make sense for my use, and the added cost wasn't justifiable.

AT&T has better coverage than Verizon at my cabin, so I just went with that model. The camera comes with a SIM card pre-installed.

I have 4 spypoint cell cameras one is solar...havent had any issues except at my end as far as it goes for transmitting photos as I'm just on the cusp of a signal, so time of year and weather(leaf coverage on trees ect... can reduce connectivity. I installed the long range antennas om 2 cameras which have helped. I also make sure I have updated the firm wear if required. I have had these cameras for 4 years now and they replaced an older one when they changed over to 5g...I use panels and lithium batteries to power my cameras.

It's fixing to get even colder up there over the next few days. I'll be curious to hear how it does in subzero F temps.

How is the photo quality? At night?

I'm wondering if anyone has considered a more traditional camera?

Up here you can add a "tablet" to our cell phone plan for only $5/month. Its just a SIM card that shares data with your cell (I have 40gb). My plan is to just buy some WIFI cameras (like wyze) and connect to a 4G hub with that SIM card. That way I get high resolution, unlimited pictures and 2 way audio. I will power it all off a small solar panel and gel battery.

It would be more money than a single $115 trail camera, but less than buying 2 of those!

We've had some nasty weather blow through northern WI the last few weeks and it got me to thinking I want a way to check on the cabin when i'm not there. I have been there in 2 weeks and i feel like it's been forever...so sometimes i just want to see a fresh photo of my happy place

So i've decided to invest in a celluar trail camera. For some reason i always thought the cell plan on those things were crazy expensive but it seems like most companies offer a range of plans under $10. Right now I am leaning towards the Spypoint Cell Link. I've been reading the posts on this thread and haven't seen anyone specifically call out this unit. Anyone have one of those? I just like the idea of being able to use my own camera and having the ability to repurpose it for normal use if i choose to not use it for celluar.

Any one else just get the spypoint email about the AT&t cameras may stop working in a few months? To top it off they offer you a verizon version for $70. I paid for a camera expecting it to work with the carrier I chose. Then they want to sell me another version. That's a slap in the face.

If this does stop working I'm completely done with cellular cameras. I was really on the fence after my solar spypoint only lasted the summer from water intrusion.

Ver disappointed in spypoint.

Well it’s the phase out of 3G that is the issue with all brands of cameras that run on the 3G network.
That isn’t really SPYPOINTs fault

I've got Verizon Spypoints, no email from them. Guess they will be OK, for awhile..

As in so many things in life....it'll be ok until it isnt.
Then on to plan B
(maybe the old sci-fi movies were right, technology will do us in?)

I had to get a new cell phone this year, the one I had bought right from my carrier (Page Plus), less than a year old, no longer worked because it didn't have VOIP (voice over internet). And I still prefer Windows 7 over 10 that I was forced into..

At least I can still drive my old cars around, for now. Though the ethanol doesn't help.

Did you get ahold of spypoint directly? When i talked to them they made it sound like i easily swap units with them if i found a particular didn't work in my area.

That sucks, i'd call them directly....I got nothing from them on my verizon spypoints, I am hesitant to say it but they both have been working flawlessly....

Your right but it shouldn't be the customer paying for it either.

Well it certainly sucks but when cell networks announce plans to make major changes we know about it at the same time SPYPOINT would have

Can’t stop technology from advancing. If you buy a new 5g one today it too will get outdated at some point
