I'm getting ready for my move, and I'm not taking much. I am SO not moving a bunch of stuff from Texas that may or may not suit or fit in the cabin. I'm in the process of ditching all of my small appliances except my coffeemaker. Suffice it to say, all that's coming with me are my favorite leather chair and its ottoman, a small Queen Anne needlepoint chair, a small butcher-block top microwave cart, my small HD Smart TV, a couple of boxes of dishes and cookware, a couple of boxes of pics and mementos, and some clothes. That's it.

My son and I were trying to decide how this move was going to work. I don't want to tow my car behind a moving truck going 1,600 miles but driving 2 vehicles would be expensive. Then, there's the dogs. My son and I and the dogs in the moving truck? Um no, lol. This was going to be miserable.

I bopped in to UHaul today to speak with someone and heaved a sigh, saying I wish we had one of those Pod companies here and serving my location in Oregon because that would be the perfect solution. He said, well, it's not exactly the same but we do something like that. Do tell!

Enter UBox!!! It's about 6 X 8 feet and quite tall! You fill it up, they pick it up and take it to your location. You can keep it at your location for a while. YAY! The cost for me is less than the cost of renting a stupid truck and dealing with all of that. AND it will provide me with a place to keep my stuff while I get the cabin built so I won't have to unload to a storage space and then move it all again to the cabin. Perfect!

This is helpful for anyone moving stuff to a remote area who also needs storage. Obviously, if you're taking a LOT of things, it won't be big enough but maybe it would be a partial solution. So I thought I'd share.

Sounds like Good Customer Service and a lucky, if not timely catch for you. I'd say it's another + on the adventure list.

The funny thing is that I had no intention of going to UHaul today. Went to church then was doing some errands and at a stoplight, I saw a little lonely UHaul trailer in a lot on the corner that had a "Rent Me" sign on it, haha. I thought, I think there is a UHaul dealership not far away. Maybe I should just go there and look around."

Bingo. One of the big lessons I'm learning about the Small Cabin and Off-Grid Experience is that the services we take for granted in a small city or semi-rural area simply aren't available. That sounds like a Duh statement. It isn't. I can't believe I can't find a plumber. I thought Pods were nationwide and surely there'd be a franchise in the city 20 miles away. Nope. What do you MEAN I'd have to leave the moving truck in MEDFORD? That's 70 miles away!

To find one solution, you have to Google for hours (or days) and make a bunch of phone calls. Or find something by accident, serendipity, grace, take your pick. Like today.

This UBox thing is big.
