I have a lot of old fencing that was built with native cedar tree's for fence posts. I have access to some old cedar posts that have been removed from an old fence line. I been considering rebuilding this old fence back to old cedar posts and installing the wire that is down in places etc. This project would be for bringing back to the way it was 200 + years old not for holding livestock. Not the best of pictures but this was all I had of the fence. I have a lot of it that is down or partially down. A lot of work but it doesn't have to be done all at once. What is your thoughts. I'm I crazy?

Depends on how high you want it. Wildlife passes right through mine or over it with ease. Its 4 feet high, 4 wires at 12" apart each run. It does keep out free ranging cattle, leaves lots of vegetation behind it for deer
I used wooden post, large round treated ones in corners and steel post every 12 feet apart along the runs. So far, its being used to hold horse who's pasture land was damaged and fence damaged by last summers wildfires. They had no place to go and no grazing.
Cedar post break easily, rot in time and you will have lots of work ahead of you. Are you doing it for the nostalgia? Just a short section, I would say that would be OK. Or do you want to keep in or out, some livestock?
Barbed wire fencing is spendy. I have $7300 in mine 20 acres (labor was 1.25 per foot, that is cheap, usually 2.50 per foot). That is only 3/4 mile around. I will do my other 20 acres next summer. P1020408.JPG

Yes I made a mistake 100 + years land was homesteaded 1903. Sorry.
Thanks for your thoughts and not sure if it is a really big deal for wildlife. I don't want to tear it out because a lot of fences and trees and or rocks are used in old survey records. These fence line run very close to what some call parcels, lots and so forth. I also have a very hard time destroying history and what once was. I like old not new. Lol I did start pulling up some of the old wire out of the grass and started stapling it up. There is a lot of it to do and would be perpetual job. Thanks

toyota_mdt_tech >>> looks good! Yes mine would be 4 foot or less. I have not seen where it has been a problem to wildlife or I wouldn't do it. I would have access to all the used power poles I wanted for corners and such. The posts inline I think I will use these old cedars keep the look like it was 100 years ago. I'm really not trying to keep livestock out or in. A few winters ago I had a couple of steers that wandered off of a ranchers place and they spent the winter on mine. The guy couldn't find them till late spring. Lol
Yes wire is high price I know that. I have a bunch of old stuff plus most all I need is right here.

yes Sir~ you are correct...about another month or so..i am not as mad at the turkeys as I use to be. LOL after doing the "Grand Slam 2 times"... i hunt at my farm or the hunting club. Don't chase them all over the "US of A" like i use to.
I usually start fishing in the spring when the dogwoods start blooming.

What a beautiful piece of land. I would leave that fence just the way it is. Those fence posts make great perches for all sorts of birds.

OCD would force me to repair the fence. A tractor with a posthole auger would make the task simple.

You too? I am told they make medicine for it. I told the guy who told me that I am aware of the OCD and I am OK with it.
