I found this on amazon last year and it is excellent. The concept is so simple, but the pressure you get from the shower head is just like home. It has a pump on one end that goes into a 5 gallon pale of hot water. Turn on the shower head and go! Here's the cool thing...comes with it's own rechargeable battery that you just plug in (via USB port) to your car lighter. One charge good for 10 - 15 showers. I think ee paid $60. on sale on amazon. I have the Zodi shower for camping...I really like your's as the shower head looks way better. And the rechargeable is a great idea as well.

Is the rechargeable battery replaceable? I've had an idea simmering on the back burner involving a stock pot, a wood stove, and a Harbor Freight cheapo pump.
This being already together, so to speak, seems a much better option.

I've been using a Coleman campers on demand water heater for years for showers. Rechargeable battery powers a pump that you place in a bucket, takes standard propane canisters to heat water. Battery is inexpensive to replace. Now that I have water to the camp site, I no longer need the pump, and Coleman sells a servo gadget that you attach to a hose ahead of the heater that automatically turns the water on and off when you turn the heater on and off. Works great.

Brknarow - not sure if battery is replaceable. Seems to be all one unit. The shower / pump end has a waterproof input just like your cell phone. The charging cord plugs in there and the other end goes into a usb port (car lighter, wall, etc...just like a phone) It has been great for two seasons so far!
bldginsp - A friend had a similar unit and worked great. What I liked about this one was that the shower head was s big as the one at home and the pressure was great.

Okay thanks for information. If they hold up a few years and cost no more than around $60, then the battery not being replaceable isn't a big deal really.

I've been reading reviews and comparing. I think I may still get the Zodi and simply replace the shower head, as we had discussed previously on a Zodi thread I had started here several months ago.
The main reason being that the Zodi's batteries are standard D-cell and can be replaced. I can buy rechargeable batts, as I do for many things I use regularly, but reviewers say the pump isn't hard on standard batts, either, and they last a long time. Even non-alkaline.
And the Zodi tubing is 8 feet long, not 6. I'm not just going to use this as a shower -- it will be handy in the kitchen, too, for rinsing dishes, and for washing things outside. Using a bucket and pump like that allows you to keep track of water usage, which is important when you're on a cistern.
Just some thoughts. I looked at the Briton brand that Wilbour posted, too! I'm so glad to see a lot of options available for us to use!!!!

And I keep pondering this: http://zodi.com/hot-showers/extreme-shower
Yeah, it's a lot more expensive but there are no batteries, it's really solid, it's a hand pump that pressurizes the tank, and it looks like -- with those brass fittings -- one could customize attachments. As in, have some pipe cut and an RV water-miser showerhead attached among other things. I like that it has a temperature gauge on it and that you can simply heat the water on top of the stove in it. Simple.
Because I'll be living offgrid and using these things every day, I need both simple and lasting solutions that have a variety of applications. I've hesitated on this steel jobby because I'm wondering if I could lug it around full of water. I can't find out how much it holds.

Julie. the tank shipping weight is 11.8 pounds and holds about 3 gallons of water which weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon. A tank full of water would then weigh about 37 pounds. However, you do not necessarily have to completely fill it. I can take a camp shower using less than 1 gallon of water, but then I can count the number of hairs on my head (and there ain't much there)! Go to the website to get the manufacturers specs and many user reviews. Hope this helps. Adakseabee

adakseabee Thank you! Very helpful! I'm guessing that the non-propane burner kit has the same size tank as this model since they're otherwise the same.

I bought one of those about 5 years ago and absolutely love it. Simple is good and this thing is. I thought it was expensive at the time also, but I'd buy another in a heartbeat. 2 people can shower with it full if you don't waste any time. I fill it about 2/3 and have a wonderful long shower by myself. Throw it on the wood stove and just keep an eye on the temp gauge. If you overheat a little, just take it off and let it sit for a while. Highly recommend it, you won't regret it.

I grabbed one of these guys to use with our off-grid shower
This model can run off batteries or 12v but what I really like is the ability to turn the flow off at the handle.

What I like about the Ring is that the battery pack stays out of the bucket. How does the 12v plug into it? Or in other words, what type of plugin does it require?

My setup is with a Zodi and turkey fryer. I have had it two summers and it works great for me. The shower head is fine as I would not want it to use water at a faster rate than it does. We get two quick showers per 5-gal bucket or one really nice shower.

Mine came with these accessories which included the 12v adapter
it plugs into the top of the battery pack.

I'm interested to know how many of you are using these showers full time? How long they hold up ? If they are used in freezing weather? How far do you have to carry water? How long to heat the water and how much fuel you are using to heat water?

Thank you, FishHog! I appreciate the wisdom of firsthand experience! I believe I will wait and order this closer to moving time. I agree that simple is best and like the fact that no batteries are required. With it holding between 2 and 3 gallons, it seems like a kettle of boiling water tempered with room temperature water to fill the container might do the trick!

Yay! That would be easier. Then, I could take the water to it and not have to move it filled.
